Alice Springs

Phew, that was exhausting! One and a half days the journey took. By train to Frankfurt, with Qantas nonstop to Singapore. There a few hours layover until the onward flight. Then with Qantas daughters first to Darwin in the north of Australia and after another hours stopover to Alice Springs. We are tired and our internal clock is completely wrong. But we’re in the middle of Australia, in the geographic center of the country.

The shuttle bus from the unimposing airfield far outside serves all hotels and hostels until we get off almost as last passengers at our hotel. Now we would like to go to sleep, but it is not even 10 o’clock local time. We can deposit our luggage, check in only at 2 pm.

So we take a first walk in Australia. ‚Alice‘ is a rather withe-bread small town, but an exceptionally beautiful sign tree in a central park “proves” that it is the navel of the world.

Occasionally, the Todd River flows through the town, usually its riverbed is dried up and very dusty. A few days ago, the area was hit by heavy rains, but after a week’s drought, the river is just a trickle. The floor already shows cracks from drying out. Various eucalyptus trees fascinate us.
